Summer break: how do we maximise downtime?

Here at itHOWCASE towers, we have a break from events in the summer; our last event is at the end of June and we start up again in September.

Everyone needs a reset and catch up. So what do WE do, an events team, to maximise downtime?

There are loads of things that we can do to maximise downtime during the summer break. This can include strategic planning for Q3 and Q4, focusing on planning, team well-being, and professional development. We can also encourage personal and professional growth ideas.

Just some of our strategies for maximising downtime:

1. Strategic planning and preparation

Plan for Q3 and Q4

Use the downtime to strategise for the rest of the year, review upcoming projects, and identify potential challenges.

Assess marketing materials

Evaluate past campaigns, identify what worked, and make necessary updates to marketing collateral and tools.

Address tech issues

Use the slower period to tackle tech, improve documentation, and reassess any tools we could use for more success.

Review and update processes

Analyse current workflows, identify areas for improvement, and update documentation to streamline future events.

2. Looking after our best asset – our team!

Organise social events

Host team-building activities, picnics, happy hours, or other social events to chill and spend time together.

Taking time off

Encourage employees to take time off and disconnect from work to prevent burnout.

Promote work-life balance

Ensure a healthy work-life balance by respecting time-off requests and encouraging employees to disconnect after hours.

3. Professional growth

Encourage learning

Provide opportunities for employees to learn new skills, attend webinars, or pursue personal projects.

Host brainstorming sessions

Use the downtime to brainstorm new ideas for future events and initiatives.

Facilitate networking

Encourage employees to attend industry events, connect with peers, and expand their professional networks.

Share knowledge

Encourage employees to share their experiences and insights from past events, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

But mostly, we’re using this downtime to make our events BIGGER AND BETTER  for our visitors!
